Accessibility
Everyone should be able to use this website.
We want every patient and parent to be able to find our hours, call the right office and request a consultation, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This page says what we’ve done, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us when something is in your way.
The standard we build to
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. That is the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for health care websites, and it is the one we test against.
What that means on this site
Every page uses real headings and landmarks, so screen readers can move around it. Every control works from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline. Text and its background meet at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio everywhere, including on photographs. Every photograph has a written description. The site respects your system’s reduced-motion setting, and the homepage video is silent and never plays audio. Text can be resized to 200 percent without anything being cut off, and the layout reflows on a phone without sideways scrolling.
The accessibility widget
The site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA on its own. As an additional aid, we also provide the accessiBe accessWidget, which lets you adjust contrast, text size, spacing, cursor size and other display settings to suit you. To open it, select the round icon with the person symbol: on a computer it sits at the bottom right of the page, on a phone at the top right, just below the header. Your settings are kept in your own browser. If the widget is in your way or is not working for you, you can use every part of the site without it, and you can always call San Luis Obispo at 805.544.3223 or Arroyo Grande at 805.489.4625.
What we know still needs work
Two parts of the site come from other companies and we test them but don’t control their code: the consultation request form (from our patient communication system) and the video player (Vimeo). We are also working to caption every video that has speech. If either of these blocks you, call us instead; everything the form does, the front office can do on the phone.
If something is in your way
Tell us the page and what happened, and we’ll fix it or find you another route. Call San Luis Obispo at 805.544.3223 or Arroyo Grande at 805.489.4625, or write to us through the contact page. We try to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 to 10 business days.
Our offices
Both offices are at street level. If you have a question about access to either building, call that office and we’ll tell you exactly what to expect. San Luis Obispo → Arroyo Grande →
